Colorado Tech Weekly #111: Made-to-Order Hackathons, EAGLE-Net Gets a Reboot and DaVinci Will Move to Westminster

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Lord of the RIngs has dragons, elves and an entire world that is completely made up, but one of the most creative things to come out of that story for me is the number “eleventy-one”. I love that this is CTW number eleventy-one.

It seems like almost every week I’m excited for the stories I share. I’m very excited to see EAGLE-Net get a reboot with Zayo. EAGLE-Net is a project to get better internet access to public places in rural parts of Colorado. Doing anything with technology on a large scale over a large area is difficult to do correctly. I have confidence in Zayo. I wish them luck!

Colorado Tech Weekly #42: Little Bit of Everything. Startups, 3D printing, Education and Media

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local tech events every Monday morning!

Last week I wrapped up my journey into UX Design. I didn’t finish my journey, I just wrapped it up for now. It’s a much bigger subject than I realized and I have a new respect for those that do it as a profession. On Wednesday, I picked up the Ruby on Rails Tutorial book. I spent all day Sunday troubleshooting tools that I only halfway understand so I could learn and develop with Ruby on Rails. Self-directed learning is a lot like the TARDIS, it doesn’t always take me where I mean to go, but it takes me to where I need to be.

I hope you check out Open World Learning’s request for volunteers. Few things are more fun than helping kids get excited about technology. I will get to do just that tomorrow as I am hosting a Hour of Hardware event at my daughter’s elementary school to compliment the Hour of Code event we hosted in the fall. Wish me luck!

Colorado Tech Weekly #30: Marijuana? CES? Drones? Colorado has a little bit of everything

Colorado Tech Weekly Binary FlagColorado Tech Weekly brings you the top 10  technology stories of the past week and the best upcoming local events every Monday morning!

It’s the first Monday of the new year, which means it’s back-to-work time. With Christmas and New Years Day being in the middle of the week, I can understand if you’re finding it hard to focus.

Looking at the headlines this week, it’s impossible for me to come up with a theme for the week. Colorado has a little bit of everything going on. It’s fun to be a part of.

My classes at Regis start back up today. This semester I’m taking Control Structures and a class on Influence and Motivation. Maybe I can figure out how to influence my code to do what I mean and not just what I say.
